Bird-hit accidents declined by 15pc, says Pakistan Airports Authority

KARACHI: The Environmental Control Committee met at Jinnah International Airport today, with focus on cleanliness and bird-strike prevention measures during Eid-ul-Azha, Pakistan Airports Authority said in a statement on Thursday.

It was also decided during the meeting to issue messages on cleanliness and prevention of bird-strikes in Friday and Eid sermons. The meeting decided to immediately start awareness campaign through pamphlets in nearby settlements, hotels, restaurants and shops, Pakistan Airports Authority said.

Cleaning of garbage cans around the airport and identification of potential bird-attracting places is also on the immediate actions agenda of the Pakistan Airports Authority, as discussed during the meeting.

The authority also ordered to take action against those selling pigeon feed around the airport. During discussions, the meeting was informed that the bird-hit incidents recorded a 15.46 per cent decrease in 2024 compared to 2023. Further decrease in bird-hit incidents is expected this year.

The meeting also directed to further tighten measures to prevent bird habitation, and to ensure clean environment in collaboration with local government and other airport stakeholders on Eid-ul-Azha.
