Bushra Bibi protest cases

ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, has been booked in two new cases under the Telegraph Act of 1885 for inciting and misguiding the public through her video message.

Bushra Bibi in a video message on PTI’s official ‘X’ handle had accused Saudi Arabia of playing a role to overthrow Imran Khan’s government. The claim was vehemently denied by the then army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Following the video statement made by Bushra Bibi, two separate cases were filed in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur under the Telegraph Act of 1885.

The first case was filed in Dera Ghazi Khan on the complaint of a citizen named Ghulam Yaseen. In the FIR it has been stated that Bushra Bibi’s statement was a conspiracy to damage the cordial relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

A second case was filed in Rajanpur by another citizen named Hakeem. The complainant in the FIR said that Bushra Bibi had attempted to misguide the public through her video message and played with the sentiments of the public.

Police have stated that the proceedings are being conducted under Section 126 of the Telegraph Act and other relevant laws.

However, Imran Khan coming to the rescue of his wife has disagreed with the interpretation of her statement, insisting that she had done no wrong.

He said, “Bushra Bibi’s statement was deliberately taken out of context to draw our brotherly country, Saudi Arabia, into an unnecessary controversy.”

Khan further emphasised that Bushra had no involvement in politics, stating, “She didn’t mention Saudi Arabia at all.”
