Cambridge, British Council cancel Friday’s exams across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Cambridge and the British Council have cancelled Cambridge O Level, IGCSE, International AS & A Level exams in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Islamabad Capital Territory and Punjab province on Friday 9 May.

According to the notification, Cambridge and the British Council took the “difficult decision” after reviewing the current security situation and in consultation with authorities. “Our priority is to support the safety of students and staff, and help students progress with their education,” the notification reads.

The notification confirmed that “the difficult decision has been taken to cancel Cambridge O Level, IGCSE, International AS & A Level exams in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Islamabad Capital Territory and Punjab province on Friday 9 May.”

However, it has been clarified that this cancellation notification only applies to exams on Friday 9 May, for all Cambridge Direct and British Council Schools. “For exams scheduled to take place on Monday, we will update schools by the evening of Sunday 11 May.”

“We anticipate that exams scheduled to take place elsewhere in Pakistan on Friday 9 May will go ahead as planned if the security situation remains unchanged. We will keep everyone updated if there are any changes.”

Assuring students that the cancellation won’t affect their grades, Cambridge and British Council said: “Where exams are cancelled, we use our expertise and well-established processes to make sure we can award fair grades so that students can progress.”

They have advised students to keep following and checking the Cambridge and British Council Pakistan official pages only for official updates. “If you have any questions, please contact your school, or British Council Customer Services if you are private candidate.”
