Sindh makes biometric verification mandatory for vehicle registrations and transfers

Sindh car biometric registration

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that biometric verification will now be mandatory for vehicle registration and transfer in the province. This new rule was revealed by Sindh Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

According to Memon, the changes will be introduced in three stages. Starting from July 1st, biometric verification will be mandatory for registering new vehicles. From November 1st, it will be necessary for those buying vehicles. In the final stage, both buyers and sellers will have to complete biometric verification.

Memon stated that this move aims to increase transparency in the Excise Department, describing it as “just the beginning.” He believes that biometric verification will be crucial in reducing illegal transfers and fraud.

According to APP, citizens can get biometric verification done at NADRA e-facilitation centres or their local district excise offices. Memon has been working to modernise the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department since taking office.

In August, Memon introduced a directive allowing vehicle registration at showrooms to make the process easier for people. He also mentioned that the second phase of issuing premium number plates will start soon, with 50 plates being sold to raise funds for flood victims.
