Caretaker foreign minister to address OIC tomorrow

JEDDAH: Pakistan’s caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani is set to attend an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Executive Committee in Jeddah tomorrow. The OIC has called for this urgent meeting to deliberate on the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis that has unfolded in the region.

Foreign Office spokesperson, in a statement, confirmed that the OIC had convened the meeting in response to the escalating Gaza crisis. The region has been embroiled in a conflict that has resulted in loss of lives and the suffering of countless civilians. The humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a critical juncture, necessitating a collective and swift response from OIC member countries.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani is expected to represent Pakistan and convey the country’s deep concerns regarding the situation in Gaza. He will advocate for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the siege, and the provision of essential relief aid to the affected population. The tragic developments in Gaza have raised alarm across the international community, prompting calls for an urgent and coordinated response.

The Pakistani delegation, led by Foreign Minister Jilani, will emphasise the need for the cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of innocent lives and destruction. The siege on Gaza has inflicted substantial hardships on the people of the region, and Pakistan will urge for its immediate removal to ensure the movement of humanitarian assistance.

In addition to addressing the OIC Executive Committee meeting, Foreign Minister Jilani is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from other OIC member countries.
