Casualties reported in flash floods in district Khyber’s Tirah Valley

LAHORE/PESHAWAR: Different parts of Punjab again received light to heavy rain on Wednesday morning, increasing fears of floods in some of these areas, while on the other hand, one person died due to flash floods in Tirah Valley of district Khyber, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Light rain and drizzle reported from different localities of Lahore increased humidity and made the people feel suffocated.

On the other hand, it rained cats and dogs in Sialkot and Narowal, increasing risks of flash floods in these cities besides deluge in local nullahs like Palkhu, Aik and others.

A rain drain burst its banks in Nikki Gojran, a town on the outskirts of Narowal, due to which the only road link between the town and other areas was severed, creating a lot of inconvenience for the locals, who demanded Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take notice of their predicament.

Heavy rain was also reported from Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Arifwala, Pakpattan, Chunian, Okara, Sarai Alamgir and Manawala, inundating low-lying areas and resulting in the suspension of power supply.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one person died and dozens of shops were washed away by floods in district Khyber’s Tirah Valley that broke a 30-year-old record.

Rain expected in upper parts of the country

Locals demanded the government to declare the valley a calamity-hit area.

The Met Office, on the other hand, said it was not over yet as more rains were expected. – INP
