Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has launched a crackdown against illegal cattle markets in Karachi. As per latest reports, the administrative officials of the metropolitan are taking action against the unauthorised cattle markets, especially in the East District.
Unauthorised cattle markets pose threats to public health and safety. To ensure a safe Eidul Azha, Karahci commissioner has taken action against 41 such unauthorised markets. According to some media reports, at least 50 FIRs have been registered and over a hundred people have been arrested so far.
The crackdown against illegal cattle markets in Karachi has been going on since the weekend. Over the past two days, 22 new illegal cattle markets had sprung up in the district, which were also removed by the administration.
These illegal cattle markets not only pose health dangers, but may also cause traffic congestion, and sanitation challenges.
MISMANAGEMENT IN ISLAMABAD’S CATTLE MARKETS
Meanwhile, complaints of overcharging and water shortage have risen in Islamabad’s Zia Masjid cattle market. Even though this cattle market is authorised by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the sellers are complaining that they are being charged exuberant rates for water supply to animals.
Some complained of being made to pay Rs 4,000 for a bull, despite the Islamabad district administration seting a rate of Rs 1,500 per animal. A seller, speaking to HUM News said, he was charged Rs 32,000 for eight animals.
Sellers are also complaining that while the time for water supply is 8 AM, they are not getting it till 12 PM (noon). “Animals are standing in [heat of] the sun, we did not even get a shed,” another seller complained.
After these complaints, Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has issued a statement that they are looking into the complaints.
