CDA launches QR code payment system in weekly bazaars

CDA weekly bazaars go cashless

ISLAMABAD: As part of its vision to transform the federal capital into a cashless model city, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has introduced a QR code-based payment system at weekly bazaars.

According to Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) Anam Fatima, QR code stickers have been installed on all 2,700 stalls of H-9 Bazaar, enabling citizens to make payments digitally.

She added that all markets in Islamabad will be required to display QR codes, making digital transactions mandatory.

“Payments in weekly bazaars will now be possible only through QR codes and other digital platforms,” Anam Fatima said, stressing that the move will bring transparency, convenience, and greater security for both buyers and sellers.

Islamabad: October 1 deadline for unlicensed drivers

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has accelerated efforts to turn Islamabad into Pakistan’s first cashless city by expanding the State Bank of Pakistan’s Raast QR code system across markets, shopping centers, and public facilities.

Officials emphasized that Raast will play a central role in this transition, ensuring payments are quicker, more secure, and highly efficient.

Authorities are also considering expanding the digital payment network to hospitals and taxi services in the capital.

If implemented, Islamabad could become Pakistan’s first major city to have a unified digital transaction framework across markets, transport, and healthcare.
