ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) has issued a nationwide phishing alert following a sudden surge in cyberattacks targeting citizens through SMS, WhatsApp, and phone calls.
According to the latest advisory, hackers are using fake messages and fraudulent calls to steal sensitive personal information, including bank account details, identity card numbers, and one-time passwords (OTPs). The team warns the public not to click on unknown links or engage with suspicious messages or callers.

KEY WARNINGS AND SAFETY TIPS FROM CERT:

- Phishing messages often include fake prize claims, lottery wins, or bank alerts to lure users.
- Always use official channels to access services and verify any suspicious communication.
- Block and report any fake numbers or messages to relevant authorities.
Citizens are urged to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on mobile and email accounts, immediately change passwords if a suspicious link has been clicked, and inform the relevant authorities to initiate swift action.
