LAHORE: Chicken meat prices in Lahore have become uncontrollable, despite the official rate being set at Rs 595 per kg, chicken is being sold in the market for Rs 700 to Rs 725 per kg.
Citizens have expressed serious concern over the increase in chicken meat of more than Rs 100 and have demanded that the government ensure the sale of chicken at official rates.
According to shopkeepers they are unable to sell chicken at the official rates as the chicken farms are providing chicken at a higher rate.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, taking strict notice of this situation, has issued instructions to Assistant Commissioners and Price Magistrates to ensure the implementation of official rates.
He warned that those selling chicken and other items at high prices in Lahore will be fined heavily and cases will be registered against them.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of DC Lahore, Price Control Magistrates have become active against high-end sellers and the prices of essential commodities are being strictly monitored. A fine of Rs 78,000 was imposed on 70 violations.
The Deputy Commissioner Lahore says that providing relief to the people is the top priority and they will not be left at the mercy of profiteers.
Special monitoring of prices is being done during Ramadan so that citizens can be protected from inflation.
