Chills, fog, rain: the whole winter package predicted for Sunday

WEB DESK: The weather will be cold and dry in most parts of the country on Sunday with the northern areas seeing the chilliest temperatures, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Rain and snowfall with strong winds is expected in northwestern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Pothohar region, Kashmir, Murree and Galiyat. Moderate to heavy fog is likely for most districts of Punjab, upper Sindh and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the morning and night hours.

Going region by region, for Islamabad and its surrounding areas, PMD predicts cold weather with cloudy skies and possibly light rain on Sunday.

In Punjab, the weather will be cold and dry in most districts. Moderate to heavy fog is expected in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Gujarat, Mianwali, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Pakpattan, Khanewal, Vehari, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, and Jhang.

Moreover, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujarat and Sialkot are also expected to remain cloudy and receive light rain. Murree and Galiyat are expected to experience extremely cold weather with light snowfall.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and snowfall are predicted for the mountainous regions. Strong winds are predicted for Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Nowshera, Karak and Kohat. Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will get cold and partly cloudy weather today as well.

Sindh’s weather prediction is cold and dry for most areas. Additionally, moderate to heavy fog is expected in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Dadu, Larkana, Khairpur, Tando Jam and surrounding areas during the morning and night hours.

Likewise, in Balochistan, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Chaghi, Noshki, Kalat, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Kharan, Kech, Panjgur, Turbat and Gwadar will be cold and partly cloudy. The mountains might also get moderate to heavy rain and snowfall today.

PMD said that Kashmir’s weather will be partly cloudy with moderate to heavy rain and snowfall on Sunday, while Gilgit-Baltistan will be extremely cold and also cloudy with rain and snowfall likely.

FLASH FLOODS WARNING

PMD issued a warning for certain areas in Balochistan, saying that flash flooding is expected due to rain in Chaghi, Noshki, Kharan, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Quetta tonight and tomorrow morning (Monday). This might also cause traffic flow disruptions due to road closures and slippery conditions, particularly in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah.
