KARACHI: A chimpanzee died on Monday at Karachi Zoo due to a ‘sudden heart attack’.
Karachi Zoo Deputy Director Aamir Rizvi claimed that the unexpected demise was caused by cardiac arrest.
He said that it was a completely sudden death due to cardiac arrest. “The chimpanzee had a heart attack which proved fatal,” he added.
Karachi Zoo Additional Director Abida Raees said hat the chimpanzee had been in a healthy state and devoid of any injuries prior to the incident. The death was caused by cardiac arrest, she said.
On the other hand, a number of citizens laid blame upon the zoo management for the death of the chimpanzee. They contended that the animals’ deteriorating health was a consequence of substandard cleanliness conditions within the zoo.

This event marks the most recent in a string of incidents where animal fatalities have been reported at Karachi Zoo.
Notably, Noor Jehan, an ailing elephant, succumbed to her ailments on April 22 despite efforts by experts to revive her. Suffering from a debilitating joint and bone condition that had developed earlier in the year, Noor Jehan’s condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to partial paralysis of her hind limbs.
Struggling with excruciating pain, Noor Jehan’s mobility was severely restricted, culminating in her collapse within her enclosure. Her condition continued to deteriorate until she could no longer recover.
Madhubala, another elephant residing at the zoo, was diagnosed with a blood parasite in June. Medical reports indicated that her blood sample tested positive for Trypanosomes, albeit in limited quantities.
