Chinese premiere throws luncheon during PM Shehbaz trip to China


The Chinese premiere Xi Jinping hosted a luncheon for Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on his recent visit to China on Friday.

BEIJING: The Chinese premiere Xi Jinping hosted a luncheon for Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on his recent visit to China on Friday.

During his five-day trip, Shehbaz engaged in a series of high-level meetings and discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and advancing mutual interests, particularly China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In the meeting with Xi Jinping, Shehbaz and the Chinese premiere agreed to continuing the “high-quality development” of CPEC and the timely completion of major ongoing projects. They also discussed plans for the second phase of CPEC.

The visit also saw the signing of several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements between Pakistan and China covering various sectors such as technology, agriculture, trade, energy, infrastructure, and industry.

Shehbaz also visited the Yangling Institute focused on modern agriculture, commenting on Pakistan’s commitment to agricultural modernisation and innovation.

He also discussed the feasibility of several infrastructure projects, including the construction of highways and tunnels, highlighting the importance of improving transportation networks for economic development and regional connectivity.

Throughout his visit, Shehbaz stated that was Pakistan extended its “unwavering support” for China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The PM thanked China for its continued assistance and investment in Pakistan’s socio-economic sectors.
