ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, addressing the International Day for Judicial Wellbeing ceremony in Islamabad, reiterated commitment for comprehensive judicial reforms. He also vowed to strengthen the rule of law throughout Pakistan.

CJ Afridi shared insights from his recent visits to remote areas of the country, noting that his travels aimed to assess ground realities and improve the judicial system at all levels. “I have visited the entire country to bring about real change in how justice is delivered,” he stated.

He highlighted the importance of a strong national judicial policy, and stressed that the training of officers at the Judicial Academy is a vital step in ensuring professional and ethical conduct within the judiciary. “We are also working on establishing model criminal trial courts to expedite hearings and reduce the backlog of pending cases,” he announced.

CJ Afridi said that cases are now being heard on a daily basis. He said that this is necessary for timely resolution to restore public trust in the judicial process.

He also mentioned efforts to bring forward competent lawyers who are free from political affiliations and lack of professional skills, ensuring fair representation for all litigants. “My dream is for affected litigants to come to court with confidence,” he said.

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi also revealed that authorities are considering operating courts in two shifts to enhance efficiency and access to justice. “As Chief Justice, I stand firmly with independent, impartial, and honest judicial officers,” he said, adding, “Everyone must play their part in building a fair judicial system”.
