COAS warns against arms race, flouting free speech laws in PAF Address

RISALPUR: In his speech at the passing out parade of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir lauded the new cadets as the “guardian of the skies” and the “guarantor of regional unity.”

“You are the center of our hopes,” COAS said while directly addressing the graduating cadets. “You will lead a life adorned with the virtues of character, courage, and competence.”

He emphasised the significance of their conduct, stating, “Your conduct will be extraordinary not only for your personal ethics but also for the respected institution.”

COAS added, “You will never hesitate to sacrifice for the defense, honor, and dignity of the motherland.” He stressed the expectation for them to uphold the nation’s spirit, professionalism, and the tradition of bravery.

Quoting Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan, General Syed Asim Munir delineated the limits of freedom of speech and expression, warning against flouting these restrictions. “Those who blatantly flout the clear restrictions imposed on freedom of expression in the Constitution cannot point fingers at others.”

“We are well aware of our constitutional limits and expect others to uphold the Constitution as well,” Army Chief asserted.

Speaking on regional dynamics, he cautioned against the arms race, highlighting the transformative impact of advanced technologies on air power. He said, ‘Advanced technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and quantum computing are changing the use of air power as well as expanding its scope”.

“Without a strong Air Force, a country is at the mercy of any aggressor,” he remarked.

General Asim Munir commended the Pakistan Air Force for its unwavering dedication, citing their exemplary performance during the February 2019 engagement. He also drew attention to global conflicts, condemning the indiscriminate violence witnessed in places like Gaza.

Addressing the Kashmir issue, he denounced India’s illegal occupation and pledged continued support to the Kashmiri people. “We will continue to provide moral, political, and diplomatic support to our Kashmiri brothers,” he said.

In closing, he urged the cadets to emulate the heroic deeds of past defenders of the nation and remain steadfast in their commitment to Pakistan. “Be committed to the responsibility you are being entrusted with and remain loyal to the State of Pakistan,” Army Chief said.

The passing out parade was held at Asghar Khan Academy, Risalpur. COAS Syed Asim Munir was the chief guest, while Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu also participated in the parade.

Aviation Cadet Mohammad Arsalan was awarded the ‘Chief of Air Staff Trophy’ for best performance in Air Defense Course. Sergeant Habib-ur-Rehman received the ‘Chief of Staff Trophy’ for best performance.
Cadet Khushal Khan Khattak received ‘PAF Trophy’. Naval Cadet Sergeant Amanullah was awarded the Chief of the Air Staff Trophy, and Squadron Officer Junaid Malik was awarded the sword of honour.

The passing out cadets took their graduating oath at PAF Asghar Khan Academy as well.
