Cold, dry weather expected across country on Sunday

WEB DESK: The weather is likely to be cold and dry across most part of the country on Sunday, predicts the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The hilly areas will get even colder, especially in the early morning and late night hours. Some areas in the north will also receive rain with thunderstorms over the weekend. The plains will remain covered in fog before sunrise and after sunset.
Going region by region, the PMD predicts that Islamabad and its surroundings will remain cold and dry on Sunday.
In Punjab, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Pakpattan, Khanewal, Vehari, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, DG Khan, and its surroundings will get cold weather, and fog in the early morning hours.
However, the weather will remain extremely cold in Murree, Galiyat and its surrounding areas, with light rain and light snowfall likely at a few places on Sunday.
Likewise, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the weather will remain cold and dry in most districts of the province. It will remain extremely cold in the hilly areas, while heavy fog is expected at a few places in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and its surrounding areas in the morning.
In Sindh, the weather is likely to remain cold and dry in most districts of the province. Most districts of Balochistan, too, will likely remain cold and dry on Sunday, while it is likely to remain extremely cold in the hilly areas in the morning and night.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will be extremely cold and partly cloudy, while Kashmir will also likely receive light rain and even snowfall, says PMD.
Respiratory diseases increase as weather gets colder
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the number of people affected by respiratory diseases in the province increased by more than 116,000 in December 2024, the Health Department said.
In November, the number of patients suffering from respiratory diseases was 358,000. In December, this number increased to 474,000, the Health Department said.
