Confidential report reveals drug trafficking by Punjab police officials

LAHORE: A confidential report from the Punjab police has disclosed the involvement of numerous police officers and officials in drug smuggling and maintaining contacts with drug dealers across various districts.

The Chief Police Officer (CPO) Punjab has directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore to initiate immediate action against the implicated personnel.

According to the report, available with HUM News English, officers and officials from districts including Lahore, Pakpattan, Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Attock, Rawalpindi, and Mian Channu have been found involved in these illicit activities.

According to the report, an inspector and a driver in Lahore district; a sub-inspector, a head constable, and five constables in Gujranwala district; one inspector and one sub-inspector in Hafizabad; two sub-inspectors in Rawalpindi district; an inspector in Attock district and four sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and one head constable in Khanewal district (Mian Channu) were involved in drug trafficking.

Further, it identifies four ASIs, a head constable, and eight constables in Pakpattan; a DSP, an inspector, four sub-inspectors, and a head constable in Muzaffargarh; a sub-inspector and an ASI in Bahawalnagar; and an ASI in Rahim Yar Khan districts as being involved in drug peddling and smuggling activities.

Sources said that, following instructions from Punjab Police Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar, RPOs and DPOs have been directed to take stringent action against those involved. The concerned authorities have been asked to submit a compliance report back to the CPO office.
