PESHAWAR: In response to the looming threat of heat stroke as temperatures soar across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Health Department has decided to establish cooling spaces within hospitals.

Under the directives issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, an advisory has been circulated, focusing on both prevention and treatment strategies to combat potential heatwaves. Health Minister’s office has further mandated the installation of heat stroke treatment units in all hospitals across the province.
To ensure swift implementation, guidelines have also been outlined for the setup of these treatment units. District Health Officers (DHOs) have been instructed to appoint focal persons at the district level to oversee preparedness for any heatwave eventualities.
Recognising the importance of medical supplies in heat stroke management, steps are being taken to guarantee the availability of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and other essential medicines in hospital facilities. Additionally, provisions are being made for the provision of cold drinking water in hospital wards and waiting rooms.

As stated by the Health Department, the issued guidelines also emphasise the necessity of ensuring an ample supply of ice bags to bolster the effectiveness of heat stroke treatment units.
