Coronavirus JN.1 variant confirmed in six more passengers arriving in Karachi

KARACHI: The number of coronavirus cases in Karachi is increasing with each passing day as the result of the JN.1 variant of the test of six more passengers arriving at Karachi Airport has tested positive.
According to Health Department of Sindh, six passengers were tested positive for possible symptoms of Covid-19.
Some of the passengers who arrived in Karachi and tested positive arrived from abroad.
Among the passengers arrived in Karachai, a 50-year-old affected person hailed from Mingora Swat, while a 27-year-old passenger is a resident of Ghotki.
In addition, a 22-year-old passenger from Mingora Swat arrived in Karachi from Riyadh, while a 40-year-old affected person who arrived at Karachi Airport hailed from Rahim Yar Khan.
The fifth passenger infected with the virus hailed from Jacobabad, who arrived in Karachi from Jeddah, while another 22-year-old passenger was a resident of Peshawar who arrived in Karachi from Riyadh.
Sindh reports suspected cases of new coronavirus variant JN-1
The affected passengers were quarantined after they were tested positve, while the airport authorities also decided to increase the number of coronavirus tests for passengers by taking further precautionary measures in this regard.
According to the spokesman of the Sinfh Health Department, 15 passengers who arrived in Karachi so far have tested positive for the rapid antigen test, of which 11 passengers have tested positive for the PCR test while the results of four awaited.
They said that out of 11 positive PCR test cases, seven passengers have tested positive for the JN.1 variant, of which two were foreigners and five locals.
