teachers strike court

LAHORE: The District Court issued an order on Friday for the release of teachers who had been detained during a protest outside the civil secretariat the previous day.

Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid presided over the hearing and denied the police’s request for a ten-day physical remand, leading to the teachers’ release from the case.

These teachers, among more than 100 other civil servants, were apprehended while demonstrating in support of their demands. Their demands included the abolition of loan encashment deductions, restoration of the disparity allowance for employees, and the regularization of contract employees.

The protesters had been staging a sit-in at Civil Secretariat Chowk for the third consecutive day when they were taken into custody by the police.

Rana Liaquat, General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, decried the arrests of peaceful employees and accused the government of resorting to extreme measures. He called for the immediate release of the detained teachers and warned that the employees would persist in their protest until their demands were met.

The protest sit-in, involving non-teaching staff and teachers from the Punjab Education Department, is ongoing at Civil Secretariat Chowk. The demonstrators have declared their intent to continue protesting until their demands receive approval.
