This decision was challenged by the Capital Naanbai Association, a union comprising over 3,000 tandoors in Islamabad. The petitioners were represented by the Barrister Umer Ijaz Gilani.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard the case on the plea filed by the president of Naanbai Welfare Association.
Representatives from the district administration and the petitioner’s lawyer appeared in court as per the court’s instructions.
The district administration adopted the stance that by amending the law, DCOs have been empowered to fix the price.
Barrister Umer Ijaz Gilani, the lawyer of Naanbai, argued that flour is expensive and the rent is also high.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri questioned, that were the naanbai’s asked about the cost of atta or was the decision just taken to please the public
The court suspended the district administration’s notification of reduction in prices of roti and naan till the next hearing on May 6.
