Cyclone Asna update: storm starts moving away from Karachi

KARACHI: Cyclone Asna has started moving from Karachi, however strong winds with intermittent rain will continue in the metropolitan city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Cyclonic Storm (CS) “ASNA”) over northeast Arabian Sea off Sindh coast has moved further westward during past 9 hours and now lies at around Latitude 23.6 N & Longitude 65.7 E at a distance of about 200km southwest of Karachi, 220km south-southeast of Ormara and 380km southeast of Gwadar. The system is likely to track further west-southwestwards.
Under its influence, rain-thundershowers with few heavy falls and accompanied with squally winds (60-70Km/hour gusting 80Km/hour) likely in Karachi division, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, T.M Khan,T.A Yar, Matiari, Jamshoro and Dadu districts of Sindh today evening/night and in Hub, Lasbella, Awaran,Keach & Gwadar districts of Balochistan till tomorrow night, the PMD statement said.
Karachi faces severe weather as Cyclone Asna approaches
Heavy rains may create water logging in low lying areas of Makran coast.
Sea conditions are likely to remain rough/very rough with squally winds of 60-70 Km/hour gusting 80Km/hour.
Fishermen of Sindh are advised not to venture into sea today and those of Balochistan till tomorrow.
RAIN FALL RECORDED
According to the Meteorological Department, various parts of Karachi experienced varying levels of rainfall.
Quaidabad recorded the highest rainfall at 39mm, followed by Surjani Town with 24mm and Korangi with 18.4mm.
In Paposh Nagar, 17mm of rain was recorded, while Jinnah Terminal and Met Complex areas saw 16mm. North Karachi received 16.5mm, PAF Faisal Base recorded 15mm, and the area around Old Airport saw 12.4mm of rainfall.
