PMD issues second alert for Cyclone Tej in Southwestern Arabian Sea

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre has issued a second alert for Cyclone Tej as a low-pressure system in the southwestern Arabian Sea begins to gain momentum.
This intensifying low-pressure system raises the possibility of evolving into a deep depression, according to the alert. Currently, the system is situated at a distance of 1,830 kilometres from Karachi and 1,760 kilometres from Gwadar.

As per the alert, anticipated to further intensify into a cyclone by tomorrow morning, the system is expected to track towards the regions of Oman and Yemen. Importantly, there is no immediate threat posed to coastal areas in Pakistan from this developing cyclone.
The cyclone has been officially named Tej, following a suggested name from India that translates to ‘speed,’ as confirmed by the Chief Meteorologist.
