ISLAMABAD: A deadly kite string has tragically taken the life of a 7-year-old girl on Tuesday in the New Shakrial area of Islamabad.
The girl’s throat was slit by a sharp chemically-treated kite string, resulting in her immediate death.
The Kite Flying Act in Punjab empowered police to crack down on offenders. Despite its existence, no kite-flyer or string-maker has faced substantial punishment.
According to sources, 90% of the fatalities have been attributed to chemical strings causing neck or facial injuries.
The Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance 2001 recognises kite flying as a non-bailable offence and the person found guilty of this sport without prior permission of authorities can be arrested by a police officer of sub-inspector rank or above.
Meanwhile Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has taken notice of the incident of death of a 7-year-old girl due to strangulation in Khanna police station of Islamabad.
