KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish four dedicated parks for differently-abled citizens.
This was announced by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab in a message via social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Wahab conveyed the unwavering commitment of the KMC to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities during a meeting held at the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) headquarters.
These innovative parks, backed by financial support from both the Sindh government and the Centre for Autism Rehabilitation Training (CARTS), will be designed to serve as recreational places exclusively to meet the diverse needs of people with disabilities.
Furthermore, a vital aspect of this initiative involves the transfer of ownership of these proposed parks to the DEPD, ensuring their transformation into fully accessible and inclusive spaces.
According to ARY News, during the meeting, the DEPD secretary urged the Karachi mayor to allocate dedicated recreational areas within KMC parks to cater to the distinct needs of the special persons.
Financial allocations have been earmarked in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the establishment of the four parks during the current fiscal year.
These parks, namely Malir Saudia Park, Landhi Imran Shaheed Park, Family Park North Karachi and Kashmir Road Park, hold the promise of becoming pioneering models of inclusivity.
