Dengue cases surge across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ISLAMABAD: Dengue fever cases have seen a concerning rise across Pakistan, with the Punjab Health Department confirming 61 new cases since Saturday. The number of confirmed dengue patients in Lahore alone has reached 290, with 15 new cases reported just within a single day. This marks a sharp increase in the region as health officials remain on high alert.

Meanwhile, the situation in Rawalpindi is also escalating. In the last 24 hours, 29 new cases were reported, pushing the total number of dengue patients in the city to 756. The overall number of confirmed dengue cases in Punjab has now surged to 1,618.
The dengue outbreak is not confined to Punjab. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial Health Department reported 71 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in the province to 2,782. Among the affected districts, Peshawar has seen the highest number of cases, with 30 new infections reported.
As of now, 29 patients are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the province. In terms of district-wise breakdown, the most significant number of cases have been recorded in Charsadda (959), followed by Mansehra (299), Haripur (262), Peshawar (223), and Mardan (134).
ISLAMABAD INTENSIFIES ANTI-DENGUE MEASURES
In response to the rising threat of dengue, Islamabad’s district administration has ramped up efforts to contain the spread of the virus. A critical meeting on anti-dengue measures was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad, attended by medical experts and officials from the Health Department.
During the meeting, the experts presented practical solutions for eliminating dengue larvae. In the last 24 hours, Islamabad reported 30 new cases of dengue fever, with 11 patients from rural areas and 19 from urban areas.
A series of inspections revealed that 1,804 locations had active larvae, while 65 areas showed no signs of contamination. Anti-dengue teams have been deployed to 1,271 sites across the city, ensuring that fogging operations are conducted regularly. During the meeting, Islamabad DC reiterated the importance of continuous monitoring and stressed that any negligence in anti-dengue efforts would not be tolerated.
HEALTH EXPERTS URGE VIGILANCE
With the rise in cases across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the federal capital, health experts are urging the public to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites, such as using repellents and eliminating standing water sources where mosquitoes breed.
