Dengue virus continues to spread, 1400 cases reported in KP

PESHAWAR: Dengue continues to rise in Pakistan at an alarming rate, with 73 people diagnosed with the virus in the last 24 hours, according to a statement by the Health Department on Sunday.
With the newest batch of cases, the total is now at 1400 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 593 active cases in the region. There have been two deaths due to the virus in KP, according to the Health Department.
The Health Department stated that 456 cases were reported in Peshawar, 148 in Abbottabad, and 116 in Hangu.
Dengue cases rising: Health emergency imposed in Rawalpindi
Dengue is continuing to rise across Punjab as well, with the Health Department confirming 130 new cases across the province on Friday. Rawalpindi was hit the hardest, reporting 114 of the cases. Lahore and Attock were the next highest, reporting seven and four respectively. Gujranwala and Jehlum each reported two, with the remaining case being reported in Mandi Bahauddin.
789 new cases emerged in the province over the past week, making the total number of cases 2247 in 2024.
With the high number of cases in Rawalpindi, a health emergency was imposed in the city. There have been over 1200 cases in the city over the course of the year. Hospitals are overrun, leaving a shortage of space for dengue patients.
