ISLAMABAD: Punjab finds itself shrouded in dense fog, triggering the closure of several key motorways.
The motorway police spokesperson issued a statement detailing the affected routes and urging motorists to exercise caution.
The major arteries affected include the M-3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, the M-4 from Abdul Hakeem to Pindi Bhattian, and the M-4 from Gujra to Faisalabad. The fog has reduced visibility to hazardous levels, prompting the closure of these routes for the safety of all traffic, the spokesperson said.
Additionally, the Motorway (M-5) from Sher Shah to Zahir Peer has also been closed due to the persistent foggy conditions. Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes and stay updated on the latest traffic advisories.
Local authorities are on high alert, as heavy fog has become a recurring challenge in the region during this season. The causes of the dense fog in Punjab can be attributed to a combination of factors, including temperature inversion, high humidity, and air pollution. These elements create the perfect conditions for the formation of thick fog, severely impacting visibility on roadways.
The Motorway Police emphasized the need for drivers to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and use fog lights when navigating through affected areas. Additionally, commuters have been urged to stay informed about the latest updates from authorities and plan their journeys accordingly.
