According to the document, a total of 11,877 posts across grades 1 to 22 were abolished under the rightsizing policy. Specifically, 113 posts in grades 18 to 22 were eliminated, while the majority of the reductions. Totalling 11,764 posts, occurred in grades 1 to 18.

The rightsizing policy significantly impacted the lower-grade positions, with more than 5,000 posts in grades 1 to 4, primarily affecting class IV employees.

Commenting on the abolishment of Ministry of Aviation, former Minister of Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the merger into Ministry of Defence is an unsuitable decision and is deeply troubling. Tweeting on his X account, Rafique who is a seasoned politician with PMLN affiliation, said that the move would harm the aviation industry.

“PML-N’s election manifesto had promised to merge Railways and Aviation to form a Ministry of Transport. If rightsizing was necessary, Railways, Aviation, and Ports & Shipping could have been combined to create a Ministry of Transport,” he lamented.
