ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry has praised Iran’s diplomatic efforts in de-escalating tensions in the region, calling for continued cooperation between brotherly countries to maintain peace and stability in South Asia.
Iran was one of the few countries which had offered meditation role to ease tensions between Indian and Pakistan right after India’s move to blame Pakistan without any evidence over the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
In an exclusive interview with Iran’s official news agency IRNA — first interview by a spokesman for the Pakistani armed forces with any official media of the Islamic Republic of Iran – DG ISPR said Islamabad is “deeply grateful” for Tehran’s support in promoting regional calm.

“We are pleased with all the efforts of the international community and brotherly countries, especially Iran, which played a role in reducing tensions,” he said, referencing the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to Pakistan.

Araqchi had urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint as he arrived in Islamabad on May 5 for a one-day visit, while the nuclear-armed rivals had been trading accusations over the Pahalgam attack.
DG ISPR stressed that certain forces, aided by external elements, are trying to sow discord among friendly neighbours. “We must remain vigilant of those who seek to create misunderstandings between brotherly nations,” he cautioned.
He reaffirmed the longstanding and historic ties between Iran and Pakistan, saying the two countries have always supported each other through challenging times. “Pakistan and Iran share deep-rooted brotherly relations and have always stood by each other.”

“The two countries are important players in the region and are cooperating to secure lasting peace and regional stability,” he added.
