‘Dictators banned political parties’, PTI leaders react to Atta Tarar’s statement

ISLAMABAD: In response to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar’s statement about banning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), prominent PTI leaders and lawyers have criticised the move, labelling it undemocratic and reminiscent of dictatorial regimes.

Senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja described the potential ban as “quite foolish,” emphasising the party’s commitment to raising the voice of democracy and the people. “This matter will go to the people and the court again,” Raja asserted, indicating that the issue of banning PTI will ultimately be addressed by the Supreme Court.

Barrister Ali Zafar echoed these sentiments, underscoring PTI’s openness to participate in an all-parties conference (APC). He criticised those advocating for the implementation of Article 6, suggesting they may not fully understand the law. “Decisions to ban political parties were always made by dictators,” Zafar said.

Zafar also addressed recent government actions, noting, “The government has brought another case of Toshakhana against Imran Khan.” He expressed confidence that all cases against former PTI chairman Imran Khan would be resolved in Khan’s favour.
