DRAP issues recall alert for suspected anti-rabies vaccine

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued an alert regarding the recall of a potentially harmful anti-rabies vaccine circulating in the market.

The alert has been sent to health professionals, pharmacies, and its field force for immediate action.

According to DRAP, reports have surfaced about the supply of an anti-rabies vaccine called “Shor-Rab”, which is manufactured by an Indian company. The vaccine in question, batch number RO 10821, is unregistered with DRAP and is considered unsafe for human use.

There are serious concerns regarding the quality and safety of this vaccine, posing a significant health risk to the public.

DRAP has instructed its regulatory field force to carry out market surveillance and ensure that the suspect vaccine is removed from circulation.

Pharmacies and distributors have been advised to check their stock for the identified batch and cooperate with authorities for the immediate withdrawal of the product.

The health alert also emphasized that the supply chain of this dangerous vaccine should be thoroughly investigated, with efforts to identify and remove all counterfeit or unregistered stock from the market.
