Earthquake shakes Swat, nearby regions

SWAT: A moderate earthquake of 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Swat, Malakand, Lower Dir and surrounding areas on Sunday evening.

The quake, which lasted for about a minute, caused panic among the residents, who rushed out of their homes and buildings. No major damage or casualties were reported.

The seismological centre Islamabad said that the quake occurred at a depth of 180 kilometres and its epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range, a seismically active zone that spans across Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The centre advised the public to remain calm and follow the safety guidelines in case of aftershocks.
