ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a letter to the Punjab caretaker chief minister and the chief secretary has urged them to adhere to legal and constitutional norms in their decision-making processes.
The communication has highlighted the need to exercise their powers responsibly and within the parameters of established policies.
The ECP has emphasised that while the caretaker government can manage day-to-day affairs, it should refrain from making significant policy decisions that fall outside its scope.
The ECP has asserted that pivotal matters, particularly those concerning housing societies on green belts, require careful consideration and alignment with the legal framework.

Specifically, the ECP underscored that decisions related to housing societies and granting no-objection certificates (NOCs) should be suspended promptly stating that the responsibility for such actions lies not with the caretaker government but with the elected government, which can make these decisions in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions.
In its letter, the ECP has hoped that the caretaker government will uphold the principles of law and constitutionality in its decision-making process.
