ECP issues 88-point code of conduct for ahead of elections

ISLAMABAD: In anticipation of the next general election, the Election Commission of Pakistan has issued an 88-point code of conduct.
According to the code of conduct, the president, the prime ministers and chief ministers and public officeholders cannot take part in the electoral campaign. Instead, senators and municipal representatives can run the election campaign.
Strict enforcement measures will be in place on development schemes and discussions on Pakistan’s ideology during campaign activities.
All political parties have been banned from offering bribery, inducements, or any corrupt practices during the election campaign.
According to the code of conduct, political parties will allocate 5% of general assembly seats to women candidates. Additionally, the display of weapons during processions and public meetings will be strictly prohibited.

The code of conduct has said that government resources will not be utilized for electoral campaigns. Fair and unbiased media coverage by official channels will be guaranteed. Political parties will be required to obtain prior approval for organising rallies.
Usage of government vehicles for election campaigns will be subject to restrictions, and car rallies will not be permitted.
Discussions or statements that promote sectarianism, ethnicity or any form of hatred will strictly be prohibited.
Each candidate is entitled to appoint one polling agent per polling station, with the stipulation that the agent must reside in the relevant constituency.
Political parties have been barred from affixing flags on government properties.
A finalised version of the code of conduct will be issued following consultations with all political parties.
