ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected a petition filed by a renegade PTI member, Akbar S. Babar, against the party’s internal election.
A five-member ECP bench under the head of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja heard a set of petitions filed by PTI founding member Akbar S. Babar, Tahir Nawaz, Noreen Farooq and others challenging the recently held PTI intra-party elections of the Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Secretary Election Commission Umar Hameed Khan, petitioners and others appeared before the commission.
Arguing before the ECP, Akbar S. Babar termed the December 2 election exercise as a ‘fraud’ and demanded that a fresh election should be held under ECP monitoring.
ECP’s KP member said that section 215 of the Election Commission Act was clear on the issue.
The ECP member also said that there would be consequences for not holding intra-party elections.
However, the ECP rejected the plea and told the petitioner a re-run was out of the question.
The ECP, however, approved other petitions about the intra-party election and set a December 12 hearing date.
