PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the launch of a groundbreaking e-pension system for its employees, set to be implemented on January 1, 2026.

This digital transformation, which will replace the existing paper-based pension process, is expected to streamline the pension disbursement system and enhance efficiency. The Chief Minister’s Secretariat has prepared a detailed concept paper for the new system, and orders have been issued to the Finance Department to implement it as soon as possible.

According to the proposal, the e-pension system will allow employees to submit their pension cases online via a dedicated web-based platform.

Once the system is fully operational, employees will be able to fill out a digital form on the portal, six months before retirement. This initiative is designed to eliminate the bureaucratic hurdles that often cause delays in the current system, ensuring a smoother and quicker transition to pension benefits for retirees.

The new system will also enable pension payments to be transferred directly to the bank accounts of retired employees, within the stipulated timeline, removing the need for them to visit government offices for pension-related matters.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said, “The paperless e-pension system will make the entire process more efficient, transparent, and accessible to all employees, addressing the longstanding difficulties of the current paper-based system”.

The provincial chief secretary and finance secretary will also closely monitor the system’s performance via a real-time dashboard, providing an additional layer of oversight to ensure timely and accurate pension payments.

To ensure the system’s sustainability, necessary amendments have been proposed in the relevant laws. This forward-thinking initiative is part of the provincial government’s efforts to modernise public sector services and create a seamless experience for all government employees.

The new e-pension system is expected to significantly ease the pension process, eliminate outdated paperwork, and ultimately improve the lives of retirees.
