Elahi arrested by FIA in yet another case

LAHORE: Shortly after a court granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a money laundering case, he was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) before his formal release.

On Saturday, an anti-corruption court in Lahore had granted bail to Elahi against a surety bond of Rs100,000.

He was taken to the district courts where the FIA sought his 14-day physical remand contending that they had ‘solid proof’ against him. However, the court denied it and the PTI leader was sent to jail on judicial remand.

Previously, on June 21, he was set to be released on bail by an anti-corruption court in a separate case regarding the alleged illegal recruitment of Punjab Assembly staff. However, moments after his acquittal, he was retaken into custody from within the camp jail by the FIA making this the second time he has been arrested in the same manner.

Pervez Elahi, his son Moonis Elahi and three others are booked for their alleged involvement in money laundering and corruption through a frontman. The frontman, now identified as Chaudhry Zaman, was also taken into custody this morning.
