- ANP fears similar treatment at the hands of ECP, in order to justify actions against PTI
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its decision to challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) declaration of its intra-party elections as void and the subsequent withdrawal of the party’s election symbol, the bat. PTI’s legal team is set to approach the Peshawar High Court (PHC) today to contest the controversial decision.
The legal team, led by Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar, asserts that the ECP’s decision is legally flawed and raises concerns about the withdrawal of an election symbol at the request of an unrelated party. The team is expected to file a petition seeking the suspension of the ECP’s decision, arguing that such an action goes against the legal principles governing electoral processes.

In a statement, the PTI Legal Team emphasised, “It is illegal to withdraw an election symbol at the request of an unrelated person,” underscoring the need for adherence to established legal norms in electoral matters.
ANP fears similar fate
Meanwhile, in Mardan, the Awami National Party’s (ANP) Central Senior Vice President and former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, addressed concerns over the withdrawal of PTI’s election symbol. In a press conference, Hoti indicated that there are chances of ANP’s election symbol being withdrawn as well.
“In order to justify PTI’s symbol being withdrawn, perhaps another similar decision against ANP would have to be taken,” Hoti said.
He went on to express his discontent, saying, “The decisions taken against us in the last two elections will not be tolerated anymore.” He urged that any decision made should align with the constitution and laws of the country.
