Election symbols allotment only after financial returns submitted: ECP


ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has revealed that a total of 168 political parties are currently registered with the commission. However, an important prerequisite for these parties to be allocated election symbols is the submission of their annual financial statements to the ECP.

As of now, the ECP has received financial statements from 107 political parties, leaving 61 political parties yet to submit their financial records.

Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have submitted their financial statements, sources informed.

Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Balochistan National Party (BNP) have also submitted their financial statements to the ECP.

However, All Pakistan Muslim League, Rah Haq Party and Awami Muslim League (AML) have not submitted the returns, sources said.
