ISLAMABAD: Initiating the electoral process for the upcoming general elections in 2024, the submission of nomination papers officially commenced on Wednesday. According to the outlined schedule by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), candidates have the opportunity to obtain and submit their nomination papers until 4:30 pm on December 22 (Friday).
The preliminary list of contenders vying for electoral positions will be unveiled on December 23, with the rigorous scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled to take place from December 24 to December 30. Following this, electoral symbols will be allocated to candidates on January 13, setting the stage for the general elections to transpire on February 8.

In a recent announcement, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued comprehensive guidelines for aspiring candidates seeking to submit their nomination papers. The designated period for the submission of these crucial documents spans from December 20 to December 22, with a fixed fee of Rs 100 required for obtaining the nomination papers.
Candidates are permitted to submit a maximum of five nomination papers, each accompanied by different endorsers. The non-refundable fee for National Assembly seat contenders stands at Rs 30,000, while those aspiring for Provincial Assembly seats must remit Rs 20,000.
To complete the nomination process, candidates must attach income tax return documents from the past three years. Additionally, candidates must meet the basic qualifications of being a citizen of Pakistan and not be less than 25 years of age. According to ECP stipulations, National Assembly seat contestants must also be registered voters from any location within Pakistan.
