Punjab’s electricity relief benefited over 3.5 million consumers: Marriyum Aurangzeb

Electricity bill relief in Punjab

LAHORE: Senior Minister of Punjab, Marriyum Aurangzeb, has announced details of the relief provided to the public on electricity bills in Punjab.

The relief measures, which have now begun benefiting electricity consumers using between 201 and 500 units, include a reduction of PKR 14 per unit. The relief is already reaching 3.5 million consumers across five electricity companies in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier granted a relief package of PKR 50 billion to electricity consumers using up to 200 units. Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has managed to achieve the seemingly impossible task of providing relief to the public despite challenging economic conditions.

“Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has proven that when there is a genuine concern for the people, it reflects in actions,” Minister Aurangzeb remarked. She further emphasized that the government would continue to provide more relief, making every impossible task possible, a tradition that Nawaz Sharif has always upheld.

Criticizing the previous administration, Aurangzeb pointed out, “The affordable electricity and bread provided during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure were made expensive by Imran Khan’s government. We are now reversing those price hikes.” She also held Imran Khan responsible for the current inflation, stating, “Imran Khan is the culprit who brought inflation back to the nation.”

Aurangzeb highlighted that during Nawaz Sharif’s time, Pakistan had bid farewell to the IMF, but due to the economic destruction caused by Imran Khan’s policies, the country had to turn back to the IMF.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is setting a new precedent in public service by providing relief to the people. Her mission includes alleviating the burden of inflation on the public, bringing about an efficient system of service, and making the province a model of progress on the global stage.

The printing and distribution of the revised electricity bills with the relief amount are being carried out swiftly by all five electricity companies.

Here are the numbers of consumers who benefited from this relief:

Lahore: 840,000 consumers received relief

Multan: 653,883 consumers received relief

Faisalabad: 506,139 consumers received relief

Gujranwala: 731,305 consumers received relief

Islamabad: 785,550 consumers received relief

The special relief amounts have also been published with the bills. Minister Aurangzeb announced that the next phase of providing sustainable relief through solar energy would commence soon, with plans to provide free solar systems to consumers using up to 200 units.

Consumers using 201 to 500 units will be offered interest-free solar systems on easy installments.

Pakistan Muslim League (N) President, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, along with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, had announced the PKR 14 per unit reduction in electricity bills for the people of Punjab on 16th August.

To ensure the provision of this relief, PKR 46 billion has been allocated for the people of Punjab.
