Electricity prices up again for K-Electric consumers as ECC greenlights uniform tariff rise

KARACHI: In a recent session helmed by Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) granted approval for a uniform tariff increase in electricity prices for the residents of Karachi served by K-Electric.

According to sources, the move comes as part of a broader effort to address financial challenges.

The sources indicate that under the decision, consumers of K-Electric will experience an additional charge of 46 paisas per unit over the next three months.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance also announced the government’s approval of a Rs100 billion guarantee to alleviate the financial crisis faced by Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

In a bid to support green initiatives in Punjab, the federal government has allocated 20 billion rupees. The ECC has instructed the provincial government to establish direct communication with green energy companies for effective implementation.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance disclosed that daily wage workers operating at the Chaman border will be included in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) following consultations.
