LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) disconnected power supply to two high-line loss category villages of Kasur, over non-payment of bills, Dawn News reported.
The unpaid electricity bills of the two villages – Mir Muhammad and Sattoki – have accumulated to millions of rupees, LESCO said on Sunday.
As a result of the power suspension, the residents of the affected areas came out on roads to protest against LESCO and blocked one of the main roads of the district. LESCO spokesperson, speaking to media over the protest said that the unpaid amount of bills from these two villages has reached Rs 85 million, which they continue to refuse to pay despite repeated disconnection warnings.
“This left us with no option but to disconnect power supply by removing 15 transformers in both villages,” the spokesman told media, adding, “We will not restore electricity supply to these villages till clearance of the dues”.
According to Dawn News, Kasur district has 10 of the total 26 highest loss making LESCO grid stations in 2023, with accumulated losses worth nearly Rs 17 billion.
