ANKARA: Following the ceasefire between Pakistan and India on Saturday, many Indians have been quite upset with Turkey’s support for Pakistan during the attacks with many ‘cancelling’ their trips to the transcontinental country as a protest. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, however, reaffirmed the deep-rooted brotherhood between Türkiye and Pakistan in a heartfelt tweet addressing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as his “dear brother” and praising Islamabad’s “wisdom and restraint” in resolving conflicts through dialogue.

In his message, President Erdogan pointed out that the bond between the two nations was a rare example of true friendship, stating: The fraternal ties between Türkiye and Pakistan are among the finest examples of sincere brotherhood in the world—a relationship only a few nations are blessed with.”

He further expressed his admiration for Pakistan’s policies, saying: “As Türkiye, we highly value Pakistan’s peace, stability, and prosperity. We appreciate the Pakistani state’s wisdom and restraint, which prioritises dialogue and reconciliation in conflict resolution.”

In a strong message of solidarity, President Erdogan vowed: “We will always stand by you in good times and bad. Just as we have in the past, Türkiye will remain by Pakistan’s side in the future as well.”

The Turkish leader concluded his tweet with the slogan: “Long live Pakistan-Türkiye friendship!”

Some Indians are also calling to abandon trade with Türkiye to show their displeasure with the support given to Pakistan.
