Every second person in Pakistan possibly affected by Hepatitis: expert

LAHORE: The Principal of the Post Graduate Medical Institute Al Fareed Zafar highlighted worrying statistics about Hepatitis viruses in the nation on Wednesday. He indicated that the Hepatitis B and C viruses are expected to affect a minimum of one individual within each family across the country.

Prof Zafar further underscored the severe lethality of both Hepatitis B and C viruses, which have caused numerous fatalities worldwide.

He highlighted that many people in the country are not aware of these viruses due to a lack of understanding, and this leads to not getting enough medical check-ups.

He recommended not only conducting dedicated lectures within educational institutions but also incorporating a dedicated chapter about Hepatitis B and C in the curriculum.

Drawing a parallel, he likened the financial dedication people allocate to their sustenance to the significance of undergoing blood screenings at least annually. This practice could aid in detecting potential viral infections that might be present.

He stressed that by delivering timely treatment to patients when any disease is detected through blood screening results, it is possible to manage viral illnesses effectively.
