QUETTA: A blast on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road on Wednesday resulted in nine people being injured, including a traffic policeman and three children, according to local authorities.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Jawad Tariq confirmed the incident’s details, stating that the explosion occurred due to explosive material planted in a pile of garbage that had been present for some time. The blast unfolded as children were sifting through the trash while picking up litter.
The exact nature of the explosive device used remains unclear, as SSP Tariq emphasised that the incident was not indicative of a security lapse. He asserted that comprehensive security measures had been implemented, especially in light of the upcoming elections.

Dr Arbab Kamran, the head of the Quetta Trauma Centre, reported that the injured individuals had been transported to Civil Hospital, with two of them in critical condition.
