PESHAWAR: Assets worth Rs. 68 million from the FATA Water Resource Development Project (FWRDP), a government initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have been reported missing.
The report has prompted a directive for a fact-finding inquiry by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP).

The AGP’s audit report for 2023-24, reviewed by Hum News English, revealed significant discrepancies in the asset records of the Planning and Development (P&D) Department of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government.
Among the missing assets are four Revo vehicles, part of a project fleet of seven, alongside 15 modern Dell laptops, five printers, and 10 air-conditioners.
According to the audit report, the FWRDP, which concluded in June 2023, was supposed to transfer all assets to the P&D Department. Protocol dictates that project vehicles should be handed over to the administration department upon project closure, a step that was evidently bypassed, leading to the disappearance of the four Revo vehicles.
Repeated requests by auditors for detailed records from the P&D Department were met with silence until the finalisation of the audit report. In light of these findings, the AGP has not only called for a thorough fact-finding inquiry but also recommended taking action against the officials involved.

The FWRDP, initiated in 2015 with a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aimed to benefit 1.4 million residents across Khyber, Mohmand, and Bajaur districts, and to enhance 9,700 hectares of land in these regions. The project’s closure and subsequent asset mismanagement raise concerns about governance and accountability within government departments.
