FIA raids Peshawar hospital, arrests key suspect in illegal organ transplant racket

Illegal organ

PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday arrested a key suspect during a raid on a private hospital allegedly involved in illegal organ transplants in Peshawar, officials said.

The arrested suspect, identified as Naushad, was allegedly working as a sub-agent and facilitator in an organised organ trafficking network. According to preliminary investigations and hospital records, a Yemeni national was admitted to the facility on April 24, for a suspected illegal transplant procedure.

Officials revealed that the suspects had charged the foreign national 110,000 Saudi Riyals for the illegal organ transplant. The FIA named two other alleged agents in the network – Naeem and Kamran – as part of the ongoing probe.

“The arrested suspect is being interrogated, and raids are being conducted to apprehend other members of this illegal organ transplant network,” an FIA spokesperson said.

The operation was carried out by the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle in Peshawar, which has been cracking down on organised groups involved in the illegal organ trade. Authorities have vowed to expand investigations to dismantle the entire network.
