Field Marshal invites US President on behalf of Pakistan govt

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir extended a formal invitation to US President Donald Trump on behalf of the Government of Pakistan during a meeting at the White House yesterday.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Representative for the Middle East Steven Witkoff were also present during the meeting, along with Interior Minister of Pakistan Mohsin Naqvi and Director General ISI Asim Malik.

Field Marshal thanked President Trump for playing a positive and fruitful role in the Pakistan-India ceasefire. He also praised President Trump’s leadership skills in understanding the many challenges facing the world and dealing with them.

President Trump appreciated the ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and the US against terrorism. He also lauded Pakistan’s efforts to establish peace in the region.

US and Pakistan agreed to continue cooperation in counter-terrorism in the future as well.

President Trump showed interest in a positive trade agreement with Pakistan, based on mutual benefit. Sources said that in the meeting, US and Pakistan also agreed to increase economic and trade cooperation.

This would include sectors like Mines and Minerals and Cryptocurrency among other areas.

Field Marshal also discussed Iran-Israel conflict in detail with President Trump. Trump praised Field Marshal’s leadership and decisiveness.

Sources said that the meeting was initially scheduled for one-hour, but it lasted for two hours.
